The driving force behind the architect-led Kreger Design Build LLC, is W. Robert (Bob) Kreger. His firm designed and built the first custom LEED Platinum home in the state of New Mexico in 2008. Bob’s passion for energy efficiency and water conservation in residential construction is always at the forefront of decisions made for our clients’ benefits.
Bob is a Habitat for Humanity Hero and has won various awards for green building during several Parade of Homes sponsored by the Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association.
Bob Kreger has been practicing architecture for over 45 years, beginning in Boston, Massachusetts, and relocating to Taos, NM in 1992, and then to Santa Fe, NM in 1997.
Following a classic yet unique path within the profession, Bob attended Boston Architectural College (B Architecture 1980) where students must work full-time and attend BAC at night. Bob worked mostly in construction documents for architecture firms of all sizes throughout the greater Boston area. His experience included site design, new construction, adaptive reuse, forensics and historic preservation. He worked with small and large teams on a variety of building types.
The oil embargo of ’73 sharpened his interest in energy consciousness and sustainability. This interest morphed into a passion for all-things-green and sustainable to this day. Eventually Bob transitioned from pure architecture to production housing management and finally into passion-driven self-employment producing custom residential designs with third party sustainability verifications. Embracing his decision to specialize in custom residential design practice starting with Energy Star, then LEED for Homes as well as NAHB’s National Green Building Standard, Bob advocates for these performance standards and allows them to inform his solutions. Bob designed and built his first LEED Platinum CUSTOM home in New Mexico. Another of his homes is certified NGBS “Gold”.
Specializing in custom low-emissions residential solutions, Bob balances customers’ dreams and needs with all the classic professional design responsiblities: site response, views, comfort, style, delight and durability, climate resilience, as well as enabling each client’s unique way of life into a statement that speaks to their values.
Integrating this environmental imperative with contemporary residential “High Design” really does create a “new synergy”.
How?
By informing the design/build processes with current and rapidly evolving energy modeling offered by PHIUS.

When an architect incorporates Passive Design and Construction into a design, there are measurable “values” added to the project. These include enhanced all-year comfort, reduced emissions, reduced utility costs, superior air-quality, near dust-free environments, reduced outside noise, draft-free spaces, increased market potential and lower operating and maintenance costs. These are real and qualitative differences — tangible benefits that building owners and occupants care about.
These benefits also meaningfully address environmental concerns, so it’s s win-win … right?
“IMAGINE a building designed and constructed to function as elegantly and efficiently as a flower; a building informed by its bioregion’s characteristics, that generates all its own energy with renewable resources, captures and treats its water, and that operates efficiently and for maximum beauty.”
Since 2017 Bob Kreger focuses exclusively on ZERH (Zero Emissions-Ready Homes) and ZEH (Zero Emmisions Homes), both single-family and multi-family.

Testimonials
Bob and Nancy Kreger are an extraordinary team; architect/builder and artist. Working closely with us, frequently at a most detailed level, they met our wishes completely and produced a truly spectacular "green" (HERS 9!) home.
Sally / Abiquiu, NM
Bob Kreger designed and built our dream home. He was creative and helpful in the design to build the New Mexican style home about which I had only dreamed. He worked with us to create a home that was beautiful, affordable, and ever so "green". He was a dream with which to work. He worked very hard to make a deadline and achieved it. After we had moved into our home, he continued to consult and offer help to remedy anything we needed. I am grateful for Bob coming into our lives and creating our dream.
P and R / Santa Fe, NM
Bob and Nancy Kreger built our home in Santa Fe in 2006-2007, which we occupied in March 2007. Bob had helped us find the lot for the house. We were living in Massachusetts during the construction process and were conscientiously updated on a regular basis. We had a very good working relationship with both Bob and Nancy and have remained close friends since that time. I currently share a painting studio with Nancy and we have done painting workshops together. We both recommend them highly.

Our dream of updating our portal and garden was realized when Bob and Nancy applied their considerable combined creativity to our project. The end result was two complete patio areas and a beautiful garden for entertaining, or just enjoying our solitude. Additional space makes outside our home seem much roomier. The charm of our new outdoors has enhanced the ambience of our entire home.
